Freeport's Heilman blanks Saxonburg

Jarrett Heilman struck out 10 and tossed a four-hitter Tuesday night as top-seeded Freeport shut out Saxonburg, 5-0, in the opening round of the Butler County Area Baseball League Tournament.

Garrett Ben had a double, single and two RBI for Freeport.

The game was played at Laura Doerr Park — Saxonburg’s home field — as Freeport’s field was unavailable.

In other action:

Zach Snyder began the game with three no-hit innings and Trevor Botta got the save as Cranberry rolled past Center Township, 14-4, at Graham Park.

Clayton Blucher hit a two-run homer in the first for Cranberry. Sammy Baic, Evan Schneider and Jacob Coon had three hits each.

Pine-Richland cruised past Karns City, 24-2. No other details were available.

The tourney resumes Thursday. Freeport plays Cranberry and Butler Township faces Pine Richland in the winner’s bracket. Saxonburg plays Center Township and West Sunbury faces Karns City in the loser’s bracket.
