Man charged after fleeing from police

Led officers on high-speed chase

A Slippery Rock man allegedly led state police on a high-speed chase while intoxicated Friday.

State police arrested and charged the driver, Shaun P. Doerr, 42, who they said led them on a 13-mile chase on and around Route 8.

Doerr is being held in Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail. He has been charged with felony fleeing from police; misdemeanors of a first-offense, controlled substance DUI, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance; as well as 13 traffic violations involved in the chase.

According to charging documents, police spotted a silver Ford Five Hundred that passed another vehicle around 11:30 p.m. and merged back into its lane without using a turn signal.

Police said they began following the car along Route 8 in Center Township, and they paced the vehicle, believing it to be traveling around 75 mph in a marked 50 mph zone.

Police said they decided to stop the speeding vehicle, and they activated their siren and lights.

“The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Shaun Doerr, began to flee police at this time and a pursuit ensued,” said the investigating officer.

Police said Doerr drove north on Muddy Creek Drive until it connected back to Route 8 North. Then he drove left onto Branchton Road in Slippery Rock Township and then took a right onto Franklin Road for a brief period.

“Doerr continued driving onto Cemetery Road in Slippery Rock Township and then exited the vehicle and fled on foot,” police said. “A foot pursuit ensued, and troopers were able to apprehend Doerr using force.”

Police said after picking Doerr off the ground, they also found a small plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine. Police said Doerr admitted the crack was his.

According to police, Doerr was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital, where he refused to have his blood tested. Police said they then brought him to the state police barracks in Butler, where they put Doerr through field sobriety tests, all indicating he was impaired.

A preliminary hearing for Doerr has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
