Man charged with assault

Police allege he chased girlfriend inside a store

A western New York man is accused in an alleged domestic dispute with his girlfriend inside and outside the Speedway convenience store on Lindsay Road in Jackson Township.

The defendant, Tyler S. Vandebogart, 28, of Lewiston, also got into a confrontation with police in the incident last week.

Vandebogart is free on $15,000 bail while awaiting a preliminary hearing that was initially set for Tuesday.

Police said they were called to the store about 4:30 a.m. Feb. 2 for a domestic incident that reported a boyfriend chasing his girlfriend around the inside of the store. But by the time police arrived, the suspect was gone.

The victim told police that she and Vandebogart had gotten into an argument inside the defendant's vehicle, according to court documents. He subsequently told her to get out of the vehicle.

But she recounted that when she tried to get her 3-year-old daughter from the back seat, police said, Vandebogart pushed her, grabbed her and pulled her arm.

The woman was eventually able to get away with her child before the suspect allegedly chased her into the store. The victim told police that she ran behind the counter and called 911.

Police noted that she appeared to have recent injuries to her left arm and the left side of her face that included bruising and swelling.

Vandebogart later returned to the store, documents said, where authorities say he refused to comply with police orders, and pushed away arresting officers. Police said they had to force him into a patrol car.

District Judge Wayne Seibel arraigned the defendant on charges of simple assault, resisting arrest and harassment. Online court records did not list an attorney for him.
