Ruth J. Blatt

Ruth J. Blatt, 100, of East Brady died Saturday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Born on June 28, 1913, Ruth was the daughter of Glenn and Anna M. (Salhot) Allen.

Ruth married William R. Newsham, who preceded her in death. She later married Charles Blatt, who also preceded her in death.

Ruth was a buyer for the Erie Dry Goods Co. and Trask-Prescot and Richardson Department Store in Erie.

After retirement, Ruth worked at Doubet's Jewelry Store, also in Erie.

Ruth was an avid reader, quilter and knitter.

A member of the St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, she belonged to the former Ladies Guild. She also was a member of the Bradys Bend Historical Society, The Erie Business and Professional Women's Club and the American Legion Post 402 Auxiliary, East Brady.

Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Ruth Ann Franz of Mars and Judith Zboyvski of Erie; her stepdaughter, Charlotte Jones of Richmond, Va.; and her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Newsham of Bradenton, Fla. She also is survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; her son, William G. Newsham; her son-in-law, Edward Franz; and her grandson-in-law, Dennis Buck.

BLATT — A memorial mass for Ruth J. Blatt, who died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, East Brady. The Rev.
