Julio ‘JZ’ Tonini

Julio Zeno “JZ” Tonini, 84, of Butler, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, surrounded by his family following an illness.

Born in Butler on Jan. 31, 1940, he was a son of the late Gulio and Tina Tramontana Tonini.

“JZ” was employed for 40 years as a truck driver for American Hardware.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he also served in the U.S. Army Reserve.

He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.

He belonged to the Moraine Flying Club, the Butler City Hunting & Fishing Club and the Italian Society of Butler.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene Joan Rich Tonini, to whom he was married for 65 years; five children, Vickie Schaffner of Severn, Md., Debbie Grecco and her husband, Vince, of Butler, Michael Tonini and his wife, Joan, of St. Louis, Mo., Jay Tonini and his wife, Chelsie, of Butler, and Jeff Tonini and his wife, Jayne, of Butler; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gervasio Tonini; and his sister, Audrey Caputo.

TONINI — Friends of Julio Zeno “JZ” Tonini, who died Tuesday, June 18, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 429 Center Ave., Butler, with the Rev. Kevin C. Fazio officiating.

Military honors will be accorded at the church by Bantam Marine Detachment 743.
