Manager douses grease fire at eatery
BUTLER TWP — For a moment Sunday, a fast food restaurant could have been renamed Long John Shivers for a manager forced out into the frigid temperatures by a small grease fire.
No one was injured in the fire just before 9 a.m. at the Long John Silver's at Moraine Pointe Plaza, Butler Township, police said.
The manager had apparently arrived for work a short time earlier when the fire broke out in a fryer in the kitchen. She was able to put out the fire with an extinguisher before going outside, said police Sgt. Robert Murphy.
Police and the Department of Veterans Affairs Fire Department in Butler Township arrived a short time later but the fire already was out, authorities said. Damage, if any, was minimal.
A call to the restaurant went unanswered. A phone message noted that the restaurant is offering take-out and delivery.
