The Seneca Valley baseball team will kick off the high school baseball and softball playoffs for area teams this afternoon when it plays Plum (12-9) at 4 p.m. at North Allegheny High School in a Class AAA match-up.

The Mustangs defeated Central Catholic 3-1 in the preliminary game on Monday to face the Raiders (17-3).

Karns City (15-2) will square off against St. Mary's at 4 p.m. Wednesday, scheduled tentatively at Brookville in District 9 baseball action.

The Mars (9-7) softball team (9-7) will host New Brighton (15-5) in Class AA play Thursday.

Mars graduate Neal Wojdowski, a junior pole vaulter at the University of Pennsylvania, won the NCAA Eastern Region meet last weekend by clearing 16 feet, eight and ¾ inches at Yale University.Wojdowski bested 30 pole vaulters who qualified from more than 20 Division I colleges. Second place went to Pitt's Matt Brousse, coached by former Butler track coach Curt Phillips.Wojdowski had won the Ivy League championship over the previous weekend.
