Walter Gerner
Walter Gerner, 89, of Sarver passed away Saturday at the Good Samaritan Hospice.
Born Oct. 1, 1926, in Cabot, he was the son of the late Roy Arthur Henry Gerner and Carrie E. Witte Gerner.
Walter was a graduate of Winfield High School.
He worked as the head of research at the Moonlight Mushroom Mine for 47 years.
He was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and also St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Cabot. Walter enjoyed farming and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his daughters, Carol (Dave) Campbell of Cabot and Rebecca (Wesley) Simmers of Cabot; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Marilyn Fugh of Butler and Edna Mae Gerner of Pittsburgh.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Gerner; his son, Dennis Gerner; and his brothers, Henry, Fred and Alvin Gerner.
GERNER — Friends of Walter Gerner, who died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Ward Stakem officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Herman.Memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph R.C. Church, Building Fund, 315 Stoney Hollow Road, Cabot, PA 16023.
