Lost driver arrested for DUI after calling police for help

WORTH TWP — Lost and allegedly driving drunk, an out-of-county man needed a ride home.

He probably made the wrong call — he called for police, authorities said.

State police Monday charged Richard C. Smith, 25, of New Brighton, Beaver County with driving under the influence stemming from the incident June 30 in Worth Township.

About 4:30 a.m., troopers were called for a lost motorist. The disoriented driver had called in to say he had been out drinking with friends at a bar and he “did not know where he was in relation to his house,” police said.

He also had a request for the dispatcher: he wanted a police officer to take him home, according to charging documents.
