Dorothy ‘Dusty’ Heilman
Dorothy “Dusty” (Kynett) Heilman of Freeport, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2024. She was 94 years old. Her husband of 54 years, Bill, predeceased her in 2005.
Dusty was a beloved mother of five, Lynne Smetanick (Don), Willie, Glenn (Miriam Messerly), Kris Pitcairn (Kean) and David. Fifteen grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren complete the family.
Originally from Philadelphia, Dusty graduated from Overbrook High School in 1947 and Temple Nursing School in 1950. She married Bill in October of 1950, right before Bill joined the U.S. Army and was sent to officer candidate school and then on to Korea. They made their home in South Buffalo Township for over 50 years, with a short time in Phoenix, Ariz.
Dusty was a loving, supportive and hardworking wife to Bill, as together they built the business known as Heilman Pavement Specialties, also Hei-Way LLC, located in Sarver. She was a baptized and active member of the General Church of the New Jerusalem, with locations in Pittsburgh and Sarver.
A people person, with a spirited and engaging personality, Dusty uplifted others wherever she was. She will be remembered lovingly by legions of community members, family and personal friends, and dearly missed for generations.
HEILMAN — Friends of Dorothy “Dusty” (Kynett) Heilman, who died Thursday, May 30, 2024, will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, 524 High St., Freeport.
Private interment will be held at Mount Airy Cemetery in Natrona Heights.
