George Everett was relatively unknown when he took over as Butler Senior High School’s varsity basketball coach in June 1970, but he came away from his first afternoon of meetings favorably.

On June 3, the new coach met with the basketball team, after previously meeting with “everyone who had something remotely to do with basketball on the hill.”

Twenty-one boys responded to the call to join the team for the 1970 season, and Everett planned to evaluate each of them before placing anyone in the starting lineup.
