MEADVILLE — The Last Laff of the Chicora Area Softball League won the ASA of Pennsylvania Modified Pitch Class B Tournament last weekend in Meadville.

After losing its first game, Last Laff won nine straight games to win the 24-team tournament.

Team members included Doug Augustine, Josh Behrens, Rick Belles, Chris Bellis, Shawn Bellis, Travis Bellis, Joe Callihan, Tyler Callihan, Gary Coe, Chris Dietrich, Mike Fleeger, Buddy Gibson, Jim Harmon, Andy Larimore, Keith Lehman, Chris Miller and Jeremy Scherer.

CALLERY — Monday's Game Two of the Eagle County League championship series between Freeport and Mars II was rained out.It's slated to be made up at 6 p.m. today at Callery Field.Freeport leads the series, 1-0.

NEW YORK — The widow of New York Yankees great Mickey Mantle has died at a hospice facility in Plano, Texas. She was 77.Family spokesman Marty Appel said Monday night that Merlyn Mantle died from the effects of Alzheimer's disease. She had not appeared in public since last August, at a private dinner before a memorial for former Yankees star Bobby Murcer.Merlyn married Mickey on Dec. 23, 1951, following his rookie season. They were married for 43 years, until the Hall of Fame outfielder died of cancer on Aug. 13, 1995.

METAIRIE, La. — Drew Brees returned to Saints training camp for a pair of practices Monday after leaving the team over the weekend to attend to the death of his mother, Mina Brees, in Colorado.Brees said he expects to play in the Saints' preseason opener Friday night, but also believes he will be excused from training camp again next week to attend a memorial service.A medical examiner said Mina Brees, an attorney from Austin, Texas, died Friday in Grand County, Colo., a mountainous area about 50 miles northwest of Denver. Cindy Eller, the county's chief deputy coroner, said the cause of death remained under investigation.Brees said he did not have any updates regarding the cause of death and indicated he'd rather not discuss the matter at length, at least not publicly.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — U.S. Olympic leaders repeated that their attention is completely fixed on the quest to bring the 2016 Games to Chicago.The statement came Monday in the wake of recent reports that Pittsburgh might explore a bid for the 2020 Summer Games — a possibility that would only exist if Chicago failed to land the 2016 Olympics.Also, the deadline for submitting formal proposals for the 2018 Winter Olympics is in October, and cities such as Denver and Reno, Nev., have been mentioned in the past as possible candidates.The USOC has repeatedly said it would not back 2018 bids.

MINNEAPOLIS — Kurt Rambis reached an agreement to become the new head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves Monday.Rambis has been an assistant with the Lakers for most of the past seven seasons.
