Texas puts Darvish on disabled listARLINGTON, Texas — Yu Darvish was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with shoulder discomfort, but two MRIs showed no structural issues for the Texas Rangers pitcher who has made only three starts since returning from major elbow surgery.Texas had already decided to skip Darvish’s scheduled start at Oakland on Monday, when the right-hander from Japan was instead in Texas. Darvish had an MRI on his shoulder and another on his neck before being examined by team physician Dr. Keith Meister.Darvish (2-0, 2.87 ERA) has pitched 15 2/3 innings since returning from the 60-day DL on May 28. He had Tommy John surgery on his elbow on March 17, 2015, and missed all of last season.
Minor leaguers get drug suspensionsNEW YORK — Texas Rangers catcher Melvin Novoa has been suspended for 56 games under baseball’s minor league drug program following a positive test for the banned performance-enhancing substance Clostebol.In addition, Boston Red Sox catcher Jhon Nunez has been suspended 25 games, the commissioner’s office said Monday. A 25-game suspension is the penalty for a first violation for use or possession of a syringe at a team facility, in team-provided housing or while traveling with a club.Novoa, 19, is to start serving his penalty when the Arizona League season begins.The 21-year-old Nunez hit .316 (6 for 19) with one RBI this year for Greenville of the Class A South Atlantic League and is on the roster of Lowell of the Class A New York-Penn League, which starts play this weekend.There have been 57 suspensions this year under the minor league drug program.
Bucks, Kidd close to 3-year extensionMILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Bucks and coach Jason Kidd are going for three.The sides are close to reaching agreement on a three-year contract extension, three people with direct knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press.The people spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because the deal was not final. It is expected to be announced in the next few days. Yahoo! Sports first reported the extension talks.Kidd is entering the last year of a three-year deal with Milwaukee initially signed in 2014. He is 74-90 over his first two seasons in Milwaukee, including a 41-win season and playoff appearance in 2014-15.
Sixers work out Duke’s IngramPHILADELPHIA — Brandon Ingram dined and dunked in Philadelphia and did all but demand he become the No. 1 overall pick of the NBA draft.But, Ingram noted, that honor sure would be nice.The 76ers would love to hear the same promotional push from LSU prospect Ben Simmons — in person, at a workout.Ingram, the 19-year-old freshman out of Duke, worked out for the Sixers on Monday and tried to bolster his case for the Sixers selecting him with the first pick of the June 23 NBA draft.Simmons and Ingram are expected to go 1-2 in the draft — the order remains TBD — and the Sixers will surely nab one of the potential franchise-shifting prospects.
