Billboard owner seeks harmony with nature, ads

Billboards can offer a great advertising value without marring the surrounding landscape.

Balancing those two objectives is a priority for Harmony Outdoor, the Butler-based company that recently bought the S.R. Baron billboard company.

“We really want to live up to our name ... Harmony,” said Vance Smith, company vice president.

Harmony Outdoor, a sister company to the Butler Eagle, will continue to offer the 90-plus billboard locations that were maintained by former owner Miriam Goerk of S.R. Baron.

At the same time, Harmony Outdoor is pursuing new sites.

Smith said outdoor advertising can accentuate any campaign, including print ads.

“It’s a good piece to the marketing mix,” he said.

Still Smith noted that it’s important to Harmony Outdoor and to the landowners where the billboards are located that they do not conflict with the landscape.

The company offers visually appealing and strategically placed billboards that are not overly obtrusive.
