Sliders score 8-5 win at home

The Slippery Rock Sliders erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the third inning and beat the Richmond RiverRats 8-5 on Tuesday night at Jack Critchfield Park.

Mike Andries blasted a three-run homer during the decisive third inning, which featured seven of the Sliders’ nine hits on the evening.

David Wilson improved to 3-1 on the season for Slippery Rock (7-12) after giving up three earned runs on five hits over 6 1-3 innings.

Richmond (10-9) opened the game with a run in the top of the first and struck for four in the top of the seventh, but did not draw any closer. Kevin Becker-Menditto picked up his fourth save of the season for the Sliders, inducing a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.

Slippery Rock hosts Richmond tonight at 7:05 p.m.

Lorain County Ironmen 5, Butler BlueSox 3 — The Ironmen outhit Butler by a 13-1 margin, but the BlueSox still managed to plate three runs in the defeat at The Pipe Yard.

Grove City graduate Alex Miklos was hit by a pitch, stole second and came around to score on an error, while Matt Peters walked and scored in the fourth to give Butler (11-8) a 2-0 lead.

The Ironmen (8-11) bounced back to tie the game in the bottom half of the frame and took the lead for good with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Anthony Caringi took the loss for the BlueSox, giving up four runs — two earned — in five innings. He struck out six and walked one.

Taylor Schmidt collected the lone hit for Butler, which dropped a half-game behind the Chillicothe Paints for first place in the East Division.

The BlueSox will host Lorain County at Pullman Park tonight at 6:35 p.m.
