Kathleen Melago, SRU assistant professor of music, co-commissioned six compositions for flute and clarinet that were premiered in January at Eastern New Mexico University.

For two of the pieces, Stephen Barr, assistant professor of music, and Sean Hamilton, a May SRU music education graduate, wrote original music.

Melago, a flutist, along with clarinetist Jennifer Laubenthal, assistant professor of clarinet at Eastern New Mexico University, will perform the six works Wednesday at SRU.

GCC's Fine Arts Center Gallery presents the “Scribes of Hope” exhibition Tuesday through March 29 in the Pew Fine Arts Center.The exhibit features 31 works across a range of approaches including traditional lettering and illumination, artist books and letterpress work showcasing fresh directions in calligraphic design, as well as letters created by hand.Admission is free. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, and 7 to 10 p.m. March 14, 18 and 25.
