WOLF CREEK TWP, Mercer County — A township man is facing assault charges after state police say he attacked his girlfriend with a dog bone.

Troopers arrested Michael Allen Maxwell, 23, following the alleged attack about 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the couple’s mobile home on Magnolia Lane in Wolf Creek Township.

Maxwell and the alleged victim, 19-year-old Jordynn E. Hesselgesser, got into an argument when she accused him of cheating on her, according to a police report.

The defendant became angry and kicked the woman, police said, which caused her to fall to the floor and hit her head against the wall.

While Hesselgesser walked away, Maxwell grabbed a dog bone, the report said, and hurled it at his girlfriend. The bone struck her in the leg, police said. She called a friend, who drove to the home to offer help.

Maxwell was later arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment. He may have ended up in the doghouse with the victim but he was spared jail.

District Judge Neil McEwen released the suspect on $2,500 unsecured bail following arraignment. As part of his bail condition, McEwen ordered the defendant have no contact with the alleged victim and to stay away from the mobile home.

Maxwell’s preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 11 at McEwen’s office in Pine Township. His attorney, Douglas Straub of Grove City, did not immediately return a telephone call this morning.
