Tornado bow from tennis playoffs
Butler’s boys tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to Upper St. Clair in a WPIAL Class 3A tournament match on Wednesday.
The Golden Tornado reached the match by defeating Shaler, 3-2, in a pigtail match earlier in the tournament.

Softball
Lyrik Reed had a double, three singles and scored four runs, but Karns City dropped a 9-8 decision at Cranberry. The hosts scored four runs in the fifth inning to pull out the win.
Addison Burrows homered, had three hits, three RBI and two runs scored for the Gremlins, who had 13 hits. Nicole Taylor contributed two singles.

Avonworth 7, Freeport 0 — Sydney Selker struck out seven in a losing effort for the Yellowjackets. Abby DeJidas had two singles, Jayme Radvan one. Avonworth pitcher Alivia Lantzy struck out 16 and did not allow a walk.
Track and Field
Knoch’s girls advanced to the Class 2A team finals at Peters Township next week with four victories at West Mifflin High School. The Knights defeated Mohawk (103-47), Beaver (114-36), West Mifflin (122.5-27.5) and Waynesburg (127-23).
In a semifinal at Shenango High, Freeport’s girls fell to the hosts, 83-66.
In Class 2A boys action, Knoch lost to Ellwood City, 87.5-62.5.
