Cathryn 'Cat' Galena Murray
Cathryn “Cat” Galena Murray, 96, formerly of Parker and Marietta, Ga., passed away Monday at the Golden Living Center in Shippenville.
Born in Foxburg, June 27, 1915, Cathryn was the eldest daughter of Catherine and James Galena.
Cathryn was married May 25, 1966, in Smyrna, Ga., to R.W. Murray. She and her husband lived there for many years until 1997, when they moved back to Pennsylvania.
Cat enjoyed attending Mass, going for rides and eating lunch out. Her hobbies included reading and crossword puzzles. In her earlier years, she was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan, watching the games and following the team’s progress.
She spent her last years at the Golden Living Center, where she loved all her kind nurses, attendants and staff. Her family is truly appreciative of the Golden Living staff for all the attentive and warm care given. AseraCare Hospice cared for Cat during her last years, fulfilling her every need and whim, especially those for chocolate and sweets. Most importantly, they provided loving companionship and this helped Cat deal with her physical ailments.
Surviving are 12 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and great-nephews and four great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1998, and her younger siblings, Genevieve Thompson, Florence Overheim, Mary Overheim and James Galena.
