SSA no match for Freeport softball

Sydney Selker struck out 11, tossed a one-hitter and homered in Freeport’s 16-1 softball win over Shady Side Academy on Friday.

Abby DeJidas tripled and doubled, Reese Selker hit a pair of doubles and Jayme Radvan doubled and singled for the Yellowjackets. Leah Clark tripled, Addy Caruso doubled and Addi Gourley had two singles.

M.Kearns homered for Shady Side’s lone hit.

Hempfield 6, Butler 1 — Kelsey Ogin recorded her 100th strikeout this season and Lily Vicari homered for the Golden Tornado. Butler fell to 3-9 overall, 2-9 in section play.

Margret Howard had three hits and Lauren Howard two for Hempfield (12-1), which won its eighth in a row.

Knoch 16, West Mifflin 0 — Lindsey Wise struck out seven over three innings on Friday as Knoch rolled past the Titans.

Kaia Purcell struck out five in pitching the final two innings. The Knights won their sixth straight game and 10th of their last 11.
