PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates announced Thursday that team president, Travis Williams, tested positive for COVID-19.

In the statement, Williams said he had onset of symptoms Monday evening.

Williams also said in the statement that he is recovering and had followed mandates such as wearing a mask and social distancing.

2 Mets test positive for coronavirus

MIAMI — The New York Mets received two positive tests for COVID-19 in their organization Thursday, Major League Baseball said, prompting the postponement of two games.

The finale of the Mets' four-game series at Miami was called off an hour before it was scheduled to start Thursday night. Friday's game between the Mets and New York Yankees at Citi Field was also postponed to allow for additional testing and contact tracing to be conducted, MLB said.

The Marlins were still scheduled to travel to Washington for a series against the Nationals beginning Friday. The Marlins had a coronavirus outbreak last month that forced them to suspend their season for eight days.

LOS ANGELES — Thom Brennaman will not be calling NFL games on Fox after using an anti-gay slur on air during a Cincinnati Reds broadcast.Fox Sports issued a statement Thursday that said “we are moving forward with our NFL schedule which will not include him.” Fox also said Brennaman's remarks were “abhorrent, unacceptable, and not representative of the values of Fox Sports.”Brennaman had been a part of Fox's NFL announcer lineup since they started televising the league in 1994.The Reds announced late Wednesday that the 56-year old broadcaster was suspended. Brennaman used the slur moments after Fox Sports Ohio's feed returned from a commercial break before the top of the seventh inning in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday at Kansas City. Brennaman did not seem to realize he was already on air.

SAN DIEGO — Eric Hosmer hit a grand slam in the fifth inning Thursday night against the Texas Rangers, making the San Diego Padres the first team in MLB history to hit a slam in four straight games.Austin Hedges, Tatis and Machado were aboard for Hosmer’s historic shot.
