SV powers its way to softball victory

Lexie Hames belted two home runs and drove in seven on Monday as Seneca Valley’s softball team defeated Pine-Richland, 22-3.

Abby Kalkowski added a two-run homer and Paige Volz hit a grand slam for the Raiders. Bella Gross doubled in three runs while Emry Rice doubled home a pair.

Hames struck out 11 in four innings of pitching.

Knoch 3, West Mifflin 2 — Grace Hensch had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Knights. Marlee Fraser tossed a complete game, striking out nine.

Fraser and Mckenna Brailey both contributed a hit and RBI.

Karns City 15, Moniteau 9 — The Gremlins banged out 14 hits in this win, scoring five runs over the final three innings to break the game open. Haley Sherman homered and had five RBI while Madison Gibson had a single and two RBI.

Lyrik Reed, Addison Burrows and Jada Polczynski had two hits each for KC. Burrows and Aubrey Taylor both scored three runs. A.Stewart had two hits, A.Williams a triple and three RBI for Moniteau.

South Fayette 14, Mars 10 — No details were provided.

Baseball

Austan Runtas and Jake Kusman had three hits each as Slippery Rock defeated Hickory, 12-2, in six innings at Critchfield Park. Winning pitcher Ryan Double tossed 5.2 innings and struck out four.

The Rockets pounded out 14 hits. Now 8-2 on the season, Slippery Rock travels to Oil City on Wednesday.

Moon 8, Mars 7 — Jake Johnson had three doubles and and drove in two runs for the Planets. Charlie Bickel collected a double, two singles and two RBI. Austin Karemsky had a double and two RBI.

Jacob Maple hit a pair of doubles for Mars. Bickel pitched five innings and took the loss as a five-run Planet seventh-inning rally fell a run short.

Track and Field

Mars swept Armstrong in a dual meet, the boys winning, 115-35, the girls by an 80-66 score. Adam Rohrbaugh won the boys triple jump and pole vault for the Planets. Ayden Yocum won the 400 meters and was on two winning relays, Evan Wright won the 100 and ran on a winning relay, Gabe Hein winning the 200 and ran a leg of a winning relay.

For the girls, Riley Carrel won the pole vault and triple jump. Addisyn Vavala won the high jump and ran on a winning relay, Autumn Flowers won the 100-meter hurdles and ran on a winning relay, Lexi Hallock won the 800 and ran on a winning relay.

Aidan Fox won the triple jump and 200 meters as Union/A-C Valley’s boys defeated Redbank Valley, 93-57. Redbank Valley’s girls defeated the Falcon Knights, 85-64, despite Hannah Ithen winning the long jump and triple jump.

Slippery Rock’s girls competed in the Hermitage Invite over the weekend and had numerous athletes place. They are as follows:

300 hurdles: 2-Aiva Rech 51.53

4x800: 4-Leah Perez, Raerly FaJohn, Becca Springirth, Kasey Yeager 10:58.44

Boys Volleyball

Mars swept Derry, 3-0. Match scores were 25-11, 25-15, 25-19.

Seneca Valley 3, Baldwin 2 — No details were provided.
