Slippery Rock University women's track star Andi Rose placed first in both the 100 and 400-meter hurdles at the Early Bird Invitational, hosted by California (Pa.) University on Saturday.

Rose won the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.53 seconds and the 400 event at 1:02.33.

Freeport High School product Lacey Cochran won the 200 dash with a time of 26.23.

On the men's side, SRU's Nate Hardic won the javelin throw (180 feet, six inches) and Nate Shadeck won the 400 hurdles at 55.35.

The Slippery Rock University softball team improved to 8-8 with a doubleheader sweep of Bowie State (Md.) on Sunday.Stacey Rhoads went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in to lead The Rock to an 8-4 win in the first game.Jessica Kortz had three hits and two RBIs in SRU's 6-2 win in Game 2.
