Concert pianist Leon Bates will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday as part of Butler County Community College's Performing Arts Series. Bates, a Philadelphia native who has appeared in some of the most prestigious concert halls in North America and Europe, is known for classical and jazz performances.

• The SRU dance department will spotlight its seniors in two performances called, "Something in the Way They Move," at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday in Swope Music Hall.The dance concerts will feature a variety of dance genres. Each senior worked with three of the department's seven faculty. Each faculty member set his or her choreography to a different Beatles' song for the dance students to perform.Tickets are $5 for the public and $3 for students, and may be bought from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday in the Morrow Field House lobby or at the door. Call 724-738-2036.• The SRU music department will host a "Piano Extravaganza" at 4 p.m. Sunday in Swope Music Hall.The concert is coordinated by Nanette Kaplan Solomon, professor of music, and will include works by Beethoven, Dvorak, Brahms, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Amy Beach and a piano arrangement of Prokofieff's "Peter and the Wolf" complete with narration.Music therapy majors who will perform include Katy Capestrani and Angela Junker, both of Butler; Caitlin Lowry of Emlenton, and Vern Miller of Slippery Rock.Music education majors performing will include Catherine Brown and Thomas Walters, both of Butler; Eric Kochanowski from Sarver, and Emily Lawther from Mars.Admission is $3 for the public and free for students.

"Courting Justice," a documentary about female justices in South Africa's fledgling democracy, will be shown in Carlow's Kresge Theatre at 6 p.m. tonight.The Ruth Cowan film reveals how far South African society has progressed since the defeat of Apartheid in 1994, when the first South African election with universal suffrage took place, but also how much remains to be accomplished, particularly around the subject of gender equality.The film and panel discussion are free and open to the public, but seating is limited so reservations are needed. • The CMU School of Drama will present "A Bite of Brecht," combining highlights of Bertolt Brecht's repertoire, through Saturday in the Helen Wayne Rauh Studio Theater.For more information or tickets, call 412-268-2407 from noon to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.Also, the following play directed by students will be offered free of charge: "The Illusion" through Friday.• Bus Stop Operettas, funded by an interdisciplinary grant from CMU's School of Art, can be seen from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on the East Busway in Pittsburgh.

Westminster Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will present "Waltzing Among the Roses" at 3 p.m. Sunday in Wallace Memorial Chapel. Admission is free. Call 724-946-7278.
