Stephen Kensky
Stephen Martin Kensky, 100, of Butler, passed away Monday, April 8, 2024, at Concordia at Cabot.
Born Sept. 1, 1923, in Clairton, Pa., he was a son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Dora Kensky.
He was very loving, kind and modest, and an always-do-the-right-thing type of man.
A graduate of Clairton High School, Steve was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served in the submarine branch and on the USS Bonefish.
He married Lana Pearle Trainer on March 7, 1946. They were together for 70 years, until her passing on May 1, 2016. Steve and Lana loved dancing, socializing and traveling.
He was employed for 43 years at Airco Gases in Butler.
He was an active member of VFW Post 249 and the Tanglewood Center.
Steve was passionately devoted to his wife, Lana, and their family. He enjoyed family gatherings, especially those centered around swimming adventures and vacations. Many of the gatherings were enjoyed at his backyard swimming pool, surrounded by his loving family.
He loved tending to his garden of 30 or more varieties of fruits and vegetables. He was an avid bowler and a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. Back in the day, Steve would spend many evenings on his backyard porch listening to Pirate games on the radio.
He exhibited strength and endurance like no other, as well as patience that was unexplainable. He possessed joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and gentleness. He will always be remembered for his honesty, integrity and love for us all. Our dad was a child of God.
He is survived by his five children, Steve (Vicki), Ron (Donna), Lana, Kathy (Frank Weber) and Dolores (Mike McCandless); 11 grandchildren, Bryan Kensky, Matthew Kensky, Michael Kensky, David Kensky, Ron Kensky, Christopher Weber, Michael McCandless, Ryan McCandless, Crystal Kraynik, Kristin Maiorano and Brian BeCraft; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
