Parenti

Sylvester K. Parenti, 93, of Grove City, passed away peacefully early Monday, April 8, 2024, at AHN Grove City Hospital.

Born Oct. 2, 1930, in Fenelton, he was the son of Joseph and Josephine (DelBene) Parenti. Raised in Boyers, he was a graduate of Grove City High School and briefly worked in the Boyers limestone mine, before being hired as a carpenter at the Hilliard Building & Supply in Harrisville.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War, and achieved the rank of corporal. He became a machine shop operator at Cooper Industries in Grove City. In 1959, Sylvester started working at Sharon Steel Corp., Farrell, Pa., as a millwright and became a mechanical maintenance supervisor.

Sylvester was a member of the Church of the Beloved Disciple Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 3658, having served two terms as Grand Knight.

He was a hunter, fisherman and avid gardener, annually raising heirloom vegetable plants from his curated seed collection. Sylvester’s homemade wine was enjoyed by many. Most of all he cherished spending time with family.

He is survived by three children, Dr. Michael (Helen) Parenti of Girard, Pa., David (Elaine) Parenti of Maryville, Tenn., and Lisa (Steve) Bablak of Slippery Rock; and three grandchildren, Tim Parenti of Pittsburgh, David Parenti of Girard, Pa., and Juliana Bablak of Slippery Rock.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Jane (Troiano); a sister, Jene DiBiase of Boyers; and a brother, Louie Parenti of Struthers, Ohio.

PARENTI — Visitation for Sylvester K. Parenti, who died Monday, April 8, 2024, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.

There will be additional visitation from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Beloved Disciple, 1310 S. Center St. Ext., Grove City. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with military honors following.

Burial will be at Crestview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Beloved Disciple, 1310 S. Center St. Ext. Grove City, PA 16127.
