Josephine Funkhouser

Funkhouser

On Thursday, April 4, 2024, Josephine, “Jo,” “Phenie,” Sagan Funkhouser, with joy in her heart, took Jesus’ hand in Florida. Heaven gained an angel as we said goodbye to a mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. Our Mom lived her whole life — 99 years — in just two neighboring houses in Springdale. She lived her simple life to the fullest, giving of herself to church and community organizations, supporting family and friends in time of great joy and deep sorrow, and feeding a small army on a shoestring budget! The love she shared with us she also shared with our friends and extended family, turning every occasion into a celebration overflowing with food, love and laughter!

Her passing leaves a sadness in our hearts, but at the same time our hearts are filled with so many beautiful memories. If you remember Mom’s homemade chicken noodle soup, breaded cauliflower, and kolbasi with honey, playing cards with Mom, her Stanley Home Products, working with her, or singing in a choir with her, you know the amazing woman who holds a very special place in our hearts. We thank God for every moment we got to share with her and for the blessing she was to each of us.

Josephine was predeceased by her parents, Mathew and Katherine Chodelka Sagan; her sisters, Ann Balash and Sister Audrey Sagan, CDP; her loving husband, Delbert Funkhouser; her son, John (at birth); grandchildren, Cara Conroy and Matthew Conroy; and great-granddaughter, Ella Nowicki.

She is survived by her children, Catherine Conroy (the late George) Petroff, David Funkhouser (Laryssa Domlovil), Audrey (Joseph) Nowicki, Debra Jo (David McCutcheon) Funkhouser, Mark (Sheree) Funkhouser, Mary (Gene) Valicenti and Joann (Anthony) Grieco; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
