HARRISBURG — Hundreds of people jammed the Capitol Rotunda in Harrisburg to press for an elimination of school property taxes.

The raucous "Save Our Homes" rally Monday follows a deadlock earlier this year where state lawmakers failed to reach agreement on a proposal to shift some or all school taxes to some other form of revenue.

The organizer, state Rep. Sam Rohrer of Berks County, said they were demanding an end to delays.

"How many foreclosures are necessary before it becomes too many? How many sheriffs' sales will it take to become important?" he said.

KINGSTON — A 21-year-old robbery suspect is jailed in Luzerne County thanks to the efforts of the 71-year-old victim and his friend in a wheelchair.Harry Kopenis says he went to an ATM at a bank near his Kingston home Monday morning and withdrew $100 when a woman came out of nowhere. Police say the woman knocked Kopenis down, took his money and fled.His neighbor Kevin Lamb was nearby in his electric wheelchair. Both men chased her. Lamb says Kopenis got the woman in a headlock and he grabbed the squirming woman.

NORTH VERSAILLES — A former Steelers safety is among five people injured in a shooting at a Pittsburgh-area restaurant.Police say 27-year-old Russell Stuvaints Jr. of White Oak was shot in the right hip early Sunday at Nigro's Restaurant in North Versailles. He played for the Steelers from 2003 to 2005.Police say a woman and three other men also were shot. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.Allegheny County police charged 27-year-old Tyrone Watson of McKeesport with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and carrying an unlicensed firearm.
