HARRISBURG — It's a two-way race again for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania.

A Commonwealth Court ruling Tuesday struck 225 signatures from the petition of political newcomer Joe Vodvarka, leaving him 101 signatures shy of the 2,000 he needed to get on the May 18 primary ballot.

That leaves only incumbent Sen. Arlen Specter and U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak, who had challenged Vodvarka petitions.

Sestak's lawyer, J. Manly Parks, calls the decision "the right result." Vodvarka, a retiree from the Pittsburgh area, says he can't afford to appeal but would consider changing his mind if someone else offers to pay the bills.

He says the election laws are "made by politicians and they're for politicians."

AMBRIDGE — A historic site will reopen for tours after being shuttered due to cuts in the state budget.The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and the volunteer nonprofit group Friends of Old Economy Village completed a revised licensing agreement that will allow the volunteers to operate tours at Old Economy Village in Ambridge. The site has been closed for a few months.Old Economy Village was founded in 1824 and was the third and final community built by the Harmonists.The site will open Friday with a special admission of 10 cents to commemorate the occasion. The site will be open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through October.
