State police release Easter weekend traffic data

State police investigated 407 crashes resulting in six fatalities and 90 injuries statewide over Easter weekend, from March 29 to March 31. Troop D, which covers Butler, Armstrong, Beaver, Lawrence and Mercer counties, investigated 13 crashes over the weekend, none of which were fatal.

Statewide, intoxicated driving was a factor in 46 crashes, two of which were fatal. Troopers arrested 358 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and issued 17,168 traffic citations, including 5,285 for speeding, 557 for failing to wear a seat belt and 90 for not securing children in safety seats.

Troop D cited 20 DUIs, 330 incidents of speeding, five children not being secured in seats, 42 passengers not using their seat belts, 77 seat belt warnings, and 519 other citations over Easter weekend.
