PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police say a man committed suicide this morning during a standoff that began with his pregnant wife and two sons in the home.

Police say the wife and the 3- and 4-year-old boys were able to leave unharmed before the man shot himself in the head around 10 a.m. Police haven't released his name.

Major Crimes Cmdr. Thomas Stangrecki says the man's wife called police about 6:20 a.m. and said her husband had a gun. She didn't report him making any threats.

Police tried to negotiate with the man and went in the house after hearing the gunshot.
