Kelly/Bailouts/Tea Party
You have to love the statement that business people make whenever they have been caught taking taxpayers' money: "we had to meet a payroll." This is otherwise known as the everyone-is-doing it defense.
You can't call yourself a conservative and then turn around and pick and choose what big government programs you like or don't like. Here in Grove City, overrun as we are by purported economic conservatives, not one Republican council member said boo whenever state Senator Bob Robbins gave the borough $700,000 in "free state money"--aka taxpayer dollars-- so that GC could have bricks in the sidewalks downtown. Whither free markets to raise the cash needed? Where are the grand captains of industry to banish government aid and raise the funds privately? Conservatism seems to magically disappear whenever corporate types are the ones getting the handouts. Imagine that! Mike Kelly is no different.
I also happen to love the Tea Party movement, from a political standpoint: they are creating radical, unelectable candidates who will only siphon support from the establishment GOP. They are also pushing more pragmatic Republicans too far to the right. The crazy thing is, the tea party gang doesn't even seem to realize it.
