No-wake zone set at Lake Arthur
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has created a 145-acre no-wake zone for motorized boats on Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park to reduce shoreline erosion.
The zone was created in the northwest corner of the lake near the McDanels Boat Launch and the modern cabin colony to help slow erosion and siltation. That area of the lake has several narrow inlets that are protected by Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission rules and regulations that prohibit a wake within 100 feet of a shoreline.
“We know that much of the lake shoreline is prone to erosion, which then causes siltation into the lake,” said park manager Dustin Drew. “This particular area is even more prone to siltation because of the soils present. Establishing a no-wake zone for motorized boats in this area is another tool we can use to help prevent further erosion from wave activity.”
Park officials will use marker buoys to delineate the area, as well as signage at boat launches.
The park map featured on the website also will be updated with the new zone.
