Shaler Township girl donates gift bags to UPMC heart patients
February was American Heart Month, and it held special meaning for 11-year-old Isabella Ludwig of Shaler Township.
For the past two Februaries, Isabella has collected gift bags of items for cardiac patients at the Heart and Vascular Institute at the UPMC Passavant hospital in Pittsburgh. Ludwig dropped off the gift bags — which contained items such as puzzle books, candy, and hair brushes — at the hospital Friday, March 8.
According to a news release from UPMC, Isabella donated the bags out of gratitude for how the hospital treated her grandfather, who went there for both open-heart and lung surgery.
