St. Wendelin gets a jump on Easter
SUMMIT TWP — The Easter Bunny stopped by the cafeteria at St. Wendelin School on Sunday morning, March 10, for the annual Bunny Breakfast.
The volunteers who organized and prepared the food and drinks for the breakfast were up early — even earlier than usual because of the start of daylight saving time — but spirits were high.
“We got here by six o’clock this morning,” said Catrina Rodgers, president of St. Wendelin School’s Parent-Teacher Group. “It’s so early in the month, but it’s the only weekend we have.”
The cafeteria was teeming with scent of pancakes and maple syrup as people filled in, many coming to the breakfast right after Mass. Rodgers said the school has been hosting the breakfast for a decade or more, and it is usually well-attended by the school and church community, as well as people who come from other churches.
In addition to the Easter Bunny’s visit, there was a craft table for the children and raffles raised money for the school.
“It’s a fundraiser for St. Wendelin School,” Rodgers said. “We get a very nice turnout. We run a 50/50 and we have almost 30 raffle baskets that were donated.”
Rebecca Norman, whose children attend Holy Sepulcher School, said she saw an announcement about the breakfast in that church’s bulletin, and decided to stop by to support the school.
Angie Alwine, of Fenelton, said she is close friends with Rodgers, and attended the breakfast with one of her children to help her friend.
“We just come to help support the school,” Alwine said.
