SLIPPERY ROCK — Megan Eckenrode was named assistant field hockey coach at Slippery Rock University.

She served the same role the past two years at Dickinson College, where the team was 16-19 overall. Eckenrode also was 18-24 over two years as head coach at York College.

SRU's field hockey team was 3-16 last season.

PITTSBURGH — Rob McClellan of Butler County Club fired a 69 after the first round of the Tri-State PGA Professional Championship Monday at Edgewood Country Club, placing him in a three-way tie for third place.McClellan, who competed in the PGA Championship last week, is tied with Kevin Shields of Sewickley Heights Golf Club and John Aber of Allegheny Country Club.Barry Evans of Berry Hills Country Club leads the tournament with a 4-under 66, followed by Denny Dolci of Tam O'Shanter Golf Course at 68.Joe Boros of Treesdale Golf & Country Club is tied for 10th place with a 71. John Aubrey Sr. of Aubrey's Dubbs Dred and Jody Barrett of Cranberry Highlands Golf Course are tied with six others for 38th place at 75, and Paul Hollstein of Butler Country Club is tied for 74th place with an 81.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Quarterback Eli Manning changed a play near the goal line without telling anyone on the New York Giants offense and paid a price.Manning was knocked out of the Giants' preseason game with the New York Jets on Monday night after suffering a three-inch gash to the left side of his temple that required 12 stitches to close.The Giants, who won 31-16. said Manning showed no signs of a concussion and was sent home by the Giants' medical staff. His status for Saturday's night preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers is uncertain.
