Malovich reaches PIAA girls wrestling final

Sloboda defeated in boys semifinal round

HERSHEY — Butler senior Ana Malovich reached the finals of the PIAA Girls Wrestling Championships with a pair of pins Friday at the Giant Center in Hershey.

Malovich (18-0) pinned Savannah Richards of Pottstown at 2:38 of their 118-pound quarterfinal match, then pinned Saige Olver of Honedale at 3:46 in the semifinals. She will wrestle top-seeded Savannah Witt of Palisades in the finals on Saturday.

Butler’s Santino Sloboda (38-1) decisioned Jayden Lee of Radnor, 5-0, in the 114-pound boys quarterfinals. Sloboda’s bid for a state title ended with a 6-4 loss to Curtis Nelson of Ridley in the semifinal round. Sloboda is now in the consolation bracket.

The Golden Tornado’s Kase Chopp dropped a 5-2 decision to James Garcia of Wilson in consolations at 133.

Seneca Valley’s Connor Smith remains alive in consolations at 121 pounds, winning 6-1 and 7-5 decisions over Hickory’s Brody Bishop and Canon-McMillan’s Collier Hartman, respectively.

On the girls side, Knoch’s Miranda Lajevic dropped a 9-2 decision to Grace Nesbitt of Neshaminy in the 100-pound quarterfinals, then pinned Laurel Kuhn of Carlisle in 34 seconds in her first consolation match.

Butler’s Anastasia Manchester was pinned by Olivia Tillman of Wyomissing at 1:38 of their 142-pound consolation match. After pinning Brooke Long of Wyoming Valley in 2:45 of their 148-pound consolation bout, Seneca Valley’s Hannah Hornick was pinned in 2:21 by Alahna Morris of Lake Lehman.

The boys and girls tournaments conclude Saturday.

Boys Basketball

Dawson Camper and Hayden Smith scored 19 points each for Union, but the Golden Knights dropped an 88-65 PIAA Class 1A playoff decision to Imani Christian.

Owen Bish contributed 10 points for the Knights.

R.J. Sledge and Nate Brazil scored 23 points each for Imani, which saw its lead trimmed to 14 in the third quarter.
