WASHINGTON, Pa. — Three former Butler County high school football players earned All-Presidents' Athletic Conference recognition as members of the Washington & Jefferson College football squad.
Junior offensive lineman Gary Flavion (Seneca Valley) and senior wide receiver Jordan Roycroft (Butler) grabbed first-team honors. Roycroft caught 67 passes for 714 yards and nine touchdowns.
Sophomore running back Tim McNerney (Knoch) earned second-team All-PSAC. He carried 200 times for 862 yards and 15 touchdowns.
W&J (8-2) plays Franklin & Marshall at noon Saturday in the ECAC Division III Southwest Bowl.
Mars and Grove City will participate in high school football playoff games Friday night.The Planets (10-1) face unbeaten Montour at 7:30 p.m. in a WPIAL Class AAA semifinal at Chartiers Valley.The Eagles (10-0) face Corry in a District 10 Class AAA semifinal at 7 p.m. at Slippery Rock University.
BUTLER TWP — Gunner Gagen, 14, of Butler picked up his first amateur win last weekend, scoring a second-round TKO over Zach Arvello of Ellwood City at the Bridgewater Brawl in Beaver County.Gagen (1-1) forced Arvello to take four standing-eight counts before the bout was stopped.
KARNS CITY — Karns City High was awarded one of three PIAA District 9 Sportsmanship Awards for the 2009-10 school year.West Forest and Elk County Catholic were the other winners.
