Iris S. Hackathorn
Iris S. Hackathorn, 88, of Slippery Rock died at 6 a.m. Monday at the Grove Manor, Grove City.
A daughter of Clair L. and Helen M. Burdick Saylor, she was born in Hillards on June 21, 1925. Iris was a 1942 graduate of Butler High School.
She retired in 1985, after eight years as an administrative assistant at the VA Butler Healthcare. Previously she had worked underground at Boyers and at Bashline Hospital.
Mrs. Hackathorn had been an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Grove City where she sang in the choir and was involved in its outreach programs. She enjoyed solving jig saw puzzles, embroidering and caring for her dogs.
On Dec. 30, 1969, she married Clarence E. “Jake” Hackathorn, and he died on Oct. 12, 1977.
Surviving are a stepson, Thomas A. Hackathorn of Los Angeles, Calif., two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews complete her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Hackathorn — Friends of Iris S. Hackathorn, who died Monday, July 29, 2013, will be received in the Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Willard S. Morse, pastor of visitation at the Grace United Methodist Church in Grove City, officiating.
