PITTSBURGH — Supporters say a museum dedicated to cartoon and comics art has been so popular that it’s going to triple in size.

The ToonSeum, founded in 2007, is in Pittsburgh’s Downtown Cultural District. More than 8,000 people have visited the museum since June 1.

Joe Wos, executive director of the museum, says the expansion is made possible through the support of donors, fans and its “Real Superheroes” campaign. Interest from out-of-town visitors also factored into the decision to expand, including a partnership with a Downtown hotel.

The expansion is expected to be completed in November.
