SLIPPERY ROCK — Four Slippery Rock University soccer players have been selected to the Daktronics All-America team.
Defenders Joshua Gray and Declan Brennan (second team) , along with forward Stephen Donnelly (third team), earned honors from the men's squad.
On the women's side, senior defender Lauren Impey made first team while freshman forward Andrea Felix made honorable mention. Impey is the only player from the Atlantic Region named to the first team.
GROVE CITY — Grove City College senior women's soccer midfielder Sarah Cessar has been named first team All-Great Lakes Region.The Slippery Rock High School graduate earned the honor for a second straight year. She is the first Grove City women's soccer player to do so.Cessar scored seven goals and 20 points this season for the Wolverines (12-9-1).
SLIPPERY ROCK — Five members of the Slippery Rock University football team have received Daktronics All-Super Region 1 honors.Selected to the first team were quarterback Nigel Barksdale, punter James McCombie, offensive tackle Cory Tucker and wide receiver John Schademan.Linebacker Quindell Dean was named to the second team.
SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University volleyball team raised $3,146 as part of its eighth annual Dig for the Cure for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition.The 2013 even was held Oct. 11 during the Rock's volleyball match against Seton Hill University.The event has raised $24,074 in the past eight years.
MIAMI — Rafael Furcal will try to make his comeback from elbow surgery with the Miami Marlins.The free-agent infielder and the Marlins have agreed to terms on a contract, two people familiar with the situation said.The 36-year-old Furcal, a three-time All-Star and the 2000 NL Rookie of the Year, sat out this season after undergoing elbow ligament-replacement surgery in March.
