Songs from Home
The Pittsburgh Philharmonic Mini-Series at Butler County Community College will present “Songs from Home,” including the premier of “Frick Gates,” a new work by Pittsburgh composer Mark Fromm, at 8 p.m. Friday in the Succop Theater.
“Frick Gates” highlights the four stone gatehouses of Pittsburgh’s largest public park, all designed by architect John Russell Pope, who designed the Jefferson Memorial and the National Archives.
Also featured on the philharmonic’s October program will be Mozart’s “Sinfonia Concertante,” a piece heard in the soundtracks of several movies, including a brief airing in the 1984 film “Amadeus.”
About 70 musicians ranging in age from 15 to 80 perform classical music with the Pittsburgh Philharmonic. Members include business executives, retirees, students, teachers and other professionals, some of whom have been performing with the philharmonic for more than 20 years.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for senior citizens, $10 for students and free for children younger than 12.
