The WPIAL Baseball Coaches Association All-Star doubleheader will be played Sunday at Kelly Automotive Park.

The games will feature 84 total players representing 62 high schools.

The WPIAL Class A stars play the Class AA stars at 1 p.m., followed by Class AAA vs. Class AAAA at 4 p.m. Local players in the games include Caleb Thorn and Zach Junk of Knoch, Kevin Gannon of Mars, Noah Shannon and Matt Swartz of Freeport.

The Butler County Bears semi-pro football team dropped their regular season opener, 36-6, last weekend to the Pittsburgh Pride.The Bears open their home campaign at 7 p.m. Saturday, facing the Strabane Spartans at Butler's Memorial Park.

East Butler is off to a 6-0 start in Butler County American Legion baseball play this season.Valley (5-3), Slippery Rock (4-2), Meridian (4-3) and Saxonburg (3-1) also have winning records.Rounding out the standings are West Sunbury (1-1), Center Township (3-4), Cranberry (2-4), Kiski (2-4), Freeport (1-3) and Butler City (0-6).

Denis Lyman of the Butler BlueSox has been named the Prospect League’s Pitcher of the Week.Lyman allowed two singles and two walks over eight shutout innings in defeating Lorain County last Sunday.A sophomore at Herkimer Community College this spring, he struck out 14 in 13 innings and helped his team place third in the NJCAA Division III World Series.

MIAMI — Dan Marino says he inadvertently became a plaintiff in a concussion lawsuit against the NFL and is withdrawing immediately.The Hall of Fame quarterback said he doesn't suffer any effects from head injuries.Marino was by far the best-known of 15 former players who filed a lawsuit in federal court in Philadelphia last week.

TORONTO — The president of the Canadian Football League Players' Association says a work stoppage is closer after the league rejected the union's most recent offer for a new labor deal.The two sides haven't met face-to-face since Thursday and no new talks are scheduled.
