Prospect sewage rates increased in 2024

Prospect residents are seeing increased sewage rates this year as part of the borough’s agreement with the state department that manages the borough's sewage, according to officials.

The new rate of $87.50 per month per Equivalent Dwelling Unit, or EDU, was agreed to unanimously by council during a special meeting Monday, Feb. 12. The rate reflects a $5 increase from the 2021 rate of $82.50.

Borough solicitor Andrew Menchyk said Tuesday the biennial increase is part of the borough’s agreement with the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

“The sewage for Prospect is treated within the boundaries of Moraine State Park,” Menchyk said. “Under the agreement, the rate paid by the borough is subject to an increase every two years.”

The agreement is in effect until 2036, Menchyk said.

The sewage rate was raised to $80 per month per EDU in 2020. The rate was $72 per month per EDU in 2019.

The new rate went into effect Jan. 1, with payments due on the 15th of every month. There are also penalty charges if bills are not paid on time, according to the borough’s website.
