Knoch seniors shine in regular season finale

Adah Fuller and Naturelle Ewing combined for more points (32) in Knoch’s 52-31 girls hoops home win Monday night than did the entire Laurel team. That tandem, along with Abigail Hawk and CeCe Kosecki, was honored on Senior Night.

The Knights limited the visitors to 10 first-half points. Knoch finishes 13-9 in the regular season and will welcome in Belle Vernon to open the WPIAL Class 4A playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Montour 43, Mars 42 — The Planets dropped their regular season finale on the road despite getting 14 points fro Cecilia Christy and 11 from Vita Vargo.

Mats returns to action in the WPIAL 5A playoffs on Feb. 20 at South Fayette.

Boys Basketball

North Catholic led by five entering the fourth frame, but bowed to Central Catholic, 62-54, on the road Thursday. Max Hurray had 18 points, while Jude Rottman added a dozen for the Trojans (13-8).

Payton Wehner, whose sister, Brady, plays for North’s girls team, tied for a Vikings-high with 15 points.

Freeport 74, Eden Christian 66 — Brady Sullivan scored 21 points to pace Freeport (7-14) Monday night. The Yellowjackets led after each quarter.

Indoor Track and Field

Slippery Rock’s Tyler Arblaster placed second in the 400 meters in 52.09 seconds and fifth in the 200 meters in 23.45 in Saturday’s meet held at Youngstown State University.
