Elks will donate
CRANBERRY TWP — The Elk Lodge here will donate $3,000 on Sunday, July 27, to three township organizations as part of its commitment to giving back to the community.
Terry Liersaph, past president of the lodge and former president of the Pennsylvania Elks Association, said his organization will donate $650 to the Miracle League of Southwestern Pennsylvania, $650 to the township library and $650 to the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company.
In addition, the organization plans to award a $1,000 scholarship to a senior student at North Allegheny High School.
The money will be awarded during a ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Elk’s Lodge on Route 19 in the township.
Liersaph said the national Elks Association annually gives out money to its member organizations to donate in their communities. It’s part of the group’s effort to give back to the community.
“We really look forward to it,” he said. “We do have social quarters and that’s great but being involved in the community is even better.”
The Elks also will be donating $4,200 to other groups. That includes $2,700 to the Disabled American Veterans organization, $1,000 to VOICe and $500 to the Wounded Warrior project.
