HARRISBURG — A jury from central Pennsylvania will decide the fate of a man charged in a shooting that killed three Pittsburgh police officers in 2009.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin this morning in the trial of Richard Andrew Poplawski. Poplawski, 24, could face the death penalty if convicted of the April 2009 deaths of officers Eric Kelly, Paul Sciullo II and Stephen Mayhle.

The officers were responding to a domestic dispute call at Poplawski’s mother’s house when prosecutors say he opened fire on police. One other officer was wounded during the three-hour standoff.

The jury will be picked in Dauphin County and transported to Allegheny County for the start of the June 20 trial.
