Family reopens vet clinic of slain Pa. officer

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The family of a slain Pennsylvania police officer has reopened a veterinary clinic where he also worked and are renaming the clinic for him.

The David Dryer Memorial Animal Hospital reopened today and will be staffed with a new veterinarian.

East Washington Patrolman John “David” Dryer was killed by a motorist Dec. 18 who was later shot by police during an armed standoff at his home hours later.

Dryer owned and operated the Chestnut Veterinary Clinic in Washington, Pa., for 10 years.

Bob Dryer, a cousin, says the officer’s family worked to reopen the clinic and find another veterinarian after funeral mourners told the family stories about how the slain officer helped them or their animals over the years.

Dryer was also a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician.
