Jean M. Bauer
Jean M. Bauer, 83, of 467 West Washington St., Bradford, Pa., passed away Monday.
Born Sept. 27, 1933, in Petrolia, she was a daughter of the late George H. and Elizabeth Wason Hobaugh.
On July 29, 1955, in Petrolia, she married Dean M. Bauer, who survives.
Jean was a 1951 graduate of Karns City High School. She graduated from Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing in 1954.
Jean worked for 44 years as a registered nurse, starting in Kittanning and then in Beaver Falls. She worked the remainder of her career, 26 years, at Bradford Hospital. While in Bradford, she served as the 3 to 11 p.m. supervisor, infection control nurse and AIDS educator. She performed AIDS education seminars in the surrounding areas. For many years, Jean was the 3 to 11 p.m. supervisor at Bradford Hospital and Marilyn McDermott was the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. supervisor. They would meet at 11 p.m. to review the patient reports at the change of shifts, which created a strong professional and personal friendship.
Mrs. Bauer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bradford, where she was an elder, taught Bible school and volunteered at the after-school program. She was extremely active in the Presbyterian Women, Lake Erie Presbytery.
She was a member and past president of the Zonta Club. She enjoyed New England rug hooking and playing the piano.
In addition to her husband, Dean, of 61 years, she is survived by one son, Thomas (Diana) Bauer of Waynesboro, Pa., one daughter, Barbara (Bruce) Barnes of Butler; two granddaughters, Brittany (Curt) Pfleegor and Brooke Barnes; one great-grandson, Nolan Pfleegor; one sister, Carole A. (Dick) Stewart of Pittsburgh; and one sister-in-law, Donna Hobaugh of Butler.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Hobaugh and George Hobaugh and his wife, Etheleen 'Sis' Hobaugh.
