PITTSBURGH — Hundreds of breast cancer survivors are expected to attend “Hats on the Catwalk,” a celebration of breast cancer survival, on Oct 15 at Allegheny General Hospital.

This year’s event features the unveiling of the 2013 Ford Warriors in Pink Quilt, given to AGH for its care and empowerment of breast cancer patients.

The Warrior Quilt is made of individually decorated fabric squares with messages of hope and inspiration which are collected at Pittsburgh’s annual Race for the Cure and from local community groups.

Volunteer quilters, most of them breast cancer survivors, stitch them together into beautiful quilts that are donated to local breast cancer treatment centers and often used as wall hangings providing hope, inspiration and comfort to those undergoing treatment.

The Warrior Quilt program was created by a group of 81 Ford dealers.

Television personality Sally Wiggin will serve as master of ceremonies for the event, which begins at 5 p.m.

A keynote speaker will discuss issues of survivorship at 7 p.m. and a Chinese auction and educational tables will also be available.

Festivities will cap off at 7:30 p.m. with some of Allegheny Health Network’s cancer physicians taking to the catwalk to model festive hats designed by survivors and friends for this event.

Participants will include doctors Kathleen Erb, Larissa Greenberg, Thomas Julian, Donald Keenan, David Parda, William Poller, Jane Raymond, Carol Slomski, and Mark Trombetta.

“Hats on the Catwalk” is free and includes hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.
